Britains Housing Crisis

So was gonna write just a status about this but it just wasnt enough. Firstly I'll start by saying this is my blog and if u want to read it, fantastic. But nothing I write in my blogs are meant to offend anyone specific, I have my own views and opinions and am free to express them and so I will. Feel free to comment and start up a FRIENDLY debate but any rudeness or personal comments will be ignored and deleted!
Ok so thats thay dealt with, back to the matter at hand. The Panorama Special on Britains Housing Crisis.. So the first family on the show got a 100% mortgage and pay £2000 a month for it. Mum lived on an estate growing up and Dad in a flat. He then worked hard (not taking that away from him) and built up his own engineering business. So self employed and NEVER guaranteed money coming in. So number 1 point to make is why on earth would u push so high for a mortgage of £2000 a month?! I think I understand.. If youve never had it I guess you go a bit extreme and want a palace compared to a flat, I get that but wheres the common sense? Hmm the jobs going well atm but thats not to say it will all come crashing down at some point, instead of a £2000 mortgage we'll go for £1000 and put £1000 away in savings for a rainy day! And number 2 why would the bank allow them to do that?! Having said all this if it was me I probably wouldnt save because of my genuine belief in the fact that everyday could be ur last and u cant take money to the grave!
So on to the next family featured.... Council house trash! It was at this point that I stumbled upon the show laat night and hastily changed the channel feeling the blood boil! But I decided today to watch it n look at it with an open mind! So here we are. A few points to mention on this particular family. Number 1 I do not as a general rule have a problem with those living in council houses, knowing full well that we have been a lucky family managing to stay out of council accommodation through merely the fact that the guy who killed my Dad was an insured driver! BUT they seriously are just ugh!! They have too many kids that they cant provide for, they have no respect for anyone and give off the idea that they think the world owes them a favour! WHY?! Having said that the Dad is working 6 daysa week to buy food n that but the kids are fat so maybe cut down on their snacks and fizzy drinks! And theyre not going to school so are using all the electricity etc throughout the day that could be off! They also got evicted from their hostel because one of the kids smashed a window! WELL DURR!! Nuff said cos it annoying me now!
So next case is a 54 year old lady who worked all her life and then her husband left her and she got cancer so she had to leave work, understandably, and fell behind with mortgage repayments! They evicted her and gave her a shitty shared place to live where she didnt feel safe, but if she didnt take it she would be making herself intentionally homeless and then the council wouldnt help home her! Now these are the people we should be helping!! Through no fault of her own she needed help and all they did was take her home and her dignity and stick her somewhere she didnt feel safe! Nice one!
And the last story: a guy who was working as an investment banker in America til whoever he was working for crashed and he had to come back to England. Poor bloke was sleeping in the park and had to eat soup once a day! Then the council wouldnt house him cos he was a single man BUT they told him to go on job seekers which he couldnt do without a place of residence!! Bloody ridiculous! Luckily a charity organisation got him off the streets and into a hall basically, with 25 other men! He was then able to get himself on the ladder and into a shared flat, which meant he could finally look for a job!
So to end my first blog I wanna say how lucky I feel to not only be able to keep a roof over my head but to provide for my son and 2 dogs, in a part time job with enough support from my wonderful family to know I would never be homeless! What a heart warming feeling!
